What a wonderful tribute your webpage is to the men who fought and died during the Ox Hill Battle. I am moved by the thought that the Smithsonian and the local community took the step and tried to preserve a piece of Our Heritage. More often than not are efforts like these ignored or deemed too unimportant. I am a trustee for the Buffington Island Battlefield Group, Inc., a grass roots organization dedicated to save Buffington Island Battlefield and more than 60 burial sites of John Hunt Morgan's Raiders from destruction by a gravel company. If not stopped, the remains of these men will be shipped down the Ohio River as part of the gravel dug at Buffington, to become a drive way or parking lot somewhere. We need help as time is running out. If the Smithsonian can get involved and help us save the graves from destruction I would be grateful beyond description. Thank you for this wonderful site. I wish I had seen it before my family vacation last summer to Va. and DC area, as I would definitely have made the effort to stop. We visited Manassas and other Battlefields and would like to visit them all; this site gave me an opportunity to visit this one from my living room. It also gives me the opportunity to give those who have gone before me(I'm active duty military- Desert Storm-Father WWII- GGrandfather Civil War)a "Last Salute" from a grateful nation.
