Enfield Rifle

In 1861 the state of Massachusetts purchased 14,700 P.1853 Enfield rifle-muskets through the efforts of Francis B. Crowinshield (a special agent for Massachusetts Governor John A. Andrew). The 28th and 21st Massachusetts were armed with these weapons.
