1833 U.S. Dime

This exceptional silver dime was recovered near Saunders' Toll Gate on Little River Turnpike. It was obviously lost soon after being minted since there is no sign of wear whatsoever. Notice how well stuck the coin is as compared to earlier versions of U.S. coins.

Our nation was tried and true by this time in our history and the bold features of lady liberty and our eagle with outstretched wings seem to proudly proclaim a free people.  But storm clouds of civil war were just beginning to gather on the horizon and the trials of our new democracy would continue.
