Blue Dominican Amber |

[Picture was taken under ultraviolet light. The original crust (Matrix) was left intact on half the nugget.] |

A very rare 333 Carat Nugget of "True Blue" Amber From a private mine in the Las Cacaos area, Dominican Republic. There are two views shown... one under a ultraviolet light and the other in natural light. When the nugget is moved around in natural sunlight there are deep blue and deep green swirls of iridescence that are truly remarkable. Most "blue" Dominican amber will fade in color within a year or so after being mined. The nuggets of "True Blue" Dominican amber that do not fade are exceedingly rare. Although a small deposit was once found in Sicily prior to the discovery of blue Dominican amber, the Dominican Republic is now the only known source where a "True Blue" is occasionally found. |
