Scanning Electron Microscopic Images

These images of extant (living today) insects are provided to help give some guidance in classifying  and comparing extinct prehistoric fossils found in amber.  The following images are reduced from high resolution Scanning Electron Microscopic (SEM) images contributed by Chuck Daghlian - Dartmouth College. 

Note: Each image was originally about 500K (1500x 1200) so the images were compressed to approximately 21K  (510 x 400) for faster loading. Just click on the thumbnail to view the different characteristics and classification of each specimen.
