A "Last Salute"to JFK

This film captured a surprise visit and "Last Salute" at JFK's grave site by Jacqueline, Bobby, Ted, JJ and Caroline Kennedy (both wearing their trademark white suites). As far as I can remember the Kennedy's were in the process of vacating the White House just after JFK's grave site was opened to the public. This lost film was from one of the old hand held 16mm video cameras. It had to be hand cranked to allow a couple of minutes of shooting and is the reason for the stop and go camera motion. Additionally my Father (who was 6' 4") was jostled by many others who were trying to get a better look. The film is still being worked on and was deteriorating so it was copied it to 35mm. Previously we were able to identify the individual Kennedy's with ease but now they're only visible on the way to the grave and briefly as they were escorted to the motorcade.

Years later visiting tourists and well wishers had to be pushed back when Jacqueline paid her respects to RFK along with Ethel Kennedy in what was to be a private moment. When she tried to do the same at JFK's grave, she had to be escorted away because of the large number of onlookers who pressed toward her.
